Hip Treatment

Dr. Howard is an arthroscopic hip surgeon and sports medicine physician with offices in Palm Harbor and New Port Richey. For hip treatments, his areas of expertise lie in arthroscopic surgery and Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) of the hip.

Not all orthopedic surgeons treat FAI, and not all hip arthroscopists have pioneered such techniques as post less arthroscopy or routine capsular closure like Dr. Howard has done.

Hip issues are not uncommon in sports and activity, and hip treatment is an area of interest and expertise for Dr. Howard.  Whether you play sports on weekends, are a professional athlete, or avid runner, when you develop a hip problem it can be painful and immobilizing. Diagnosing and getting treatment, even physical therapy, will get you active again swiftly.

Dr. Howard will interview, examine, and potentially order diagnostic testing to identify the source of the pain. Hip joint problems will be diagnosed differently for a pain source in the lumbar spine, hip joint, or bursa, for example.  Diagnostic testing may include X-Rays, MRI, CAT scan, or ultrasound.

Dr. Howard’s goal is to exhaust the least invasive proven treatment methods before recommending surgery. This may include treatments such as corticosteroid injections or physical therapy exercises. He will work closely with you to explain your treatment options. He and his staff stay up to date on the latest science and treatments in orthopedic medicine.

In the event you choose surgery, Dr. Howard has highly specialized experience in minimally invasive hip arthroscopic surgery, labrum repair, bony impingement removal, and endoscopic treatment for trochanteric bursitis or abductor tears. Dr. Howard will offer care throughout the full course of surgery and recovery. Dr. Howard works closely with the occupational and physical therapists that care for his patients. As a surgeon who works with professional athletes, you can be assured that Dr. Howard will give you the latest and best surgical and non surgical treatments.
